Technology
Hardware and Platform, Built for the Edge
Two readers and one management layer, engineered by Alcatraz AI around a single principle: authenticate the person at the door, on the device, and hand your access control system a credential it already understands.
Indoor reader
The Rock™
The flagship facial authentication reader. It mounts at the door, performs the entire 3D scan-to-decision pipeline on its own hardware, and never needs a round trip to a server to let someone in. If the network drops, doors keep working.
Multi-person awareness watches the doorway, not just the face in front of it — the source of tailgating detection that badge readers simply cannot do.
- Authentication
- 3D facial authentication with liveness detection
- Decision speed
- Sub-second, processed at the edge on the device
- Anti-tailgating
- Built-in tailgating detection with real-time ACS events
- ACS output
- Wiegand and OSDP
- Placement
- Interior doors: residence floors, labs, offices, IT spaces
Outdoor reader
Rock X
The same authentication engine, hardened for weather, impact, and the brutal lighting range of an exterior door — from a moonless residence-hall entrance to a south-facing stadium gate at noon.
The integrated ONVIF camera feeds your existing VMS, and the SIP intercom handles visitors and after-hours access without adding another box to the mullion.
- Environmental
- IP66 sealed · IK08 impact-rated
- Temperature
- -40°F to 150°F operational range
- Lighting
- 0–120,000 lux — darkness to direct sunlight
- Camera
- 8MP ONVIF-compliant video
- Intercom
- SIP intercom for visitor and after-hours workflows
- Placement
- Perimeters, garages, stadium gates, loading docks
Rock X — outdoors, in weather
Management layer
Alcatraz Platform
Enrollment, consent, and every reader on campus in one place. The platform is where privacy governance becomes operational: consent records with timestamps, self-service revocation, template deletion, and the audit reporting your counsel and your CISO will ask for.
Run it in the cloud or on-premises — institutions with data-residency requirements keep everything inside their own perimeter.
- Enrollment
- Self-service via mobile/web; opt-in auto-enrollment where policy allows
- Consent
- Recorded, auditable, revocable — deletion follows revocation
- Fleet management
- Device orchestration, health, and firmware at campus scale
- Reporting
- Audit-ready access and consent reporting
- Deployment
- Cloud or on-premises
Security Architecture
What Protects the Biometric Data Itself?
Facial scans are converted on the device into encrypted, non-reconstitutable mathematical templates — there is no photo to steal. Templates are protected with AES-256 at rest and TLS 1.2/1.3 in transit, no photos, names, or videos are stored on the device, and Alcatraz AI maintains SOC 2 attestation with GDPR, BIPA, and CCPA alignment.
